Rita Najjemba's journey at MOGO has been nothing short of remarkable, and as she celebrates her five-year anniversary, her story unfolds like a tapestry woven with challenges, growth, and triumph.
Starting her career as a Customer Care Specialist (CCS) at the Ndeeba branch, Rita recalls, “What I must say is that it was a different but quite a learning experience for me.” Transitioning from a pure customer care role to one that encompassed sales and credit was daunting, especially since she had no prior experience in credit.
Yet, she embraced the challenge wholeheartedly, stating, “Interestingly, I enjoyed every bit of it because the team was very supportive; they made every step of learning worthy.”
Rita's determination led her to become the first DC operations person at her branch. She took the initiative to reach out to her predecessor for guidance, saying, “I would call the person on DC operations then to help me understand the DC module so that I can explain to clients whatever they needed to know on their accounts.”
This proactive approach not only helped her gain confidence but also ensured she never felt incompetent in front of clients.
Her hard work soon paid off as she transitioned to a full DC operations agent, moving to Kyambogo where she faced new responsibilities. “At that time, DC operations had only two agents, and I was the second one handling both car clients and Boda clients,” she explains.
The role demanded a lot from her, including running advertisements, terminating agreements, and ensuring valuations were made and uploaded on accounts. “I would run around town every Thursday or Friday morning looking for newspapers after running adverts for cars and bikes ready for sale,” she reminisces.
The urgency of her tasks was palpable; if they missed out on getting copies of the advertisements, prices could skyrocket overnight.
The pandemic brought its own set of challenges, but Rita adapted. “Sometimes we would agree with the then supervisor to have a training at around 9 PM. That time I was working from home. It was the second phase of Covid, but this was all worth it,” she says, reflecting on her resilience during those trying times.
After her stint in DC operations, she became a call center supervisor for three months before returning to Ndeeba as a branch manager on December 1, 2021. “What I have learnt in MOGO is to push my limits, be more open-minded, but above all, to always stand firm for what I believe in,” Rita shares, emphasizing the lessons she has taken from her experiences.
As a leader, Rita believes in the power of communication and empathy. “Listening to guide, allowing communication, accepting feedback, being involved, caring about my staff have always been my powerful weapons in my role,” she states. This approach has fostered a strong sense of teamwork within her branch, as evidenced by the impressive numbers Ndeeba has posted every month.
Rita Najjemba's five-year journey at MOGO is a testament to her dedication, adaptability, and leadership. As she celebrates this milestone, her story serves as an inspiration to many, proving that with hard work and a supportive team, one can overcome challenges and achieve greatness.
